Huin Goryeo Temple is a unique cultural attraction centered around temple architecture and religious culture. Many of its features are one-of-a-kind, such as the Revolving Scripture Depository Hall, the distinctive designs of the Four Heavenly Kings, Buddha statues, murals… Particularly noteworthy is the “Revolving Scripture Depository.”

Simply put, the “Revolving Scripture Depository” is a tall, pagoda-style wooden structure that houses a vast collection of Buddhist scriptures. It serves as a dedicated space within the temple for storing texts, and in Buddhism, it’s believed that “pushing it one full rotation is equivalent to reciting an entire collection of scriptures.” What’s truly unique and fascinating is that this architectural masterpiece can be manually rotated around its central axis. This exquisitely crafted, multi-ton depository can be turned by people — with one person on each of the four sides gripping a handle and pushing slowly — allowing worshippers to admire the precious contents inside as they rotate it.
