Laodui Stream

The Laodui Stream scenic area is the latest attraction launched in the Western Zhejiang Grand Canyon, characterized by a blend of natural landscapes and cultural features (farming culture). It is located in a section of the canyon upstream from the Water Play Beach in the grand canyon, surrounded by steep mountains and picturesque scenery.

Introduction

The main highlight here is a large rock in the stream shaped like the bow of a ship. The highest point of this rock is nearly 10 meters, and it stretches nearly 20 meters in length. Viewed from the west, it resembles a red flag unfurling in the wind, while from the front, it looks like a “giant ship setting sail,” making it a very captivating sight. The terrain here is relatively flat, making it a rare open area within the canyon. Facilities such as a restored old water-powered pestle, old oil press, and old lime kiln have been reconstructed, along with new additions including a scarecrow square, classical woodworking workshop, and natural foot bath center.

At the “Scarecrow Square,” visitors can see authentic antiques: an oil press, water pestle, and water mill. Those interested can even take part in the process and experience oil pressing firsthand. In fact, these old production tools also reveal the origin of the name “Laodui Stream”: generations of mountain dwellers, living high in the cloud-shrouded hills, had no electricity or grain processing plants. To pound rice, grind flour, and press oil, they built water-powered pestles along the stream using the flowing water as power. Hence, the name “Laodui Stream” came into being.
