Legend has it that Xu Xian and Bai Niangzi formed their “love that lasts a thousand years” romance here. Today, Nanshan Road bears witness to a magical blend of commerce and art. Stretching from Hubin Road in the north to Xishan Road in the south, Nanshan Road embraces nearly half of West Lake. Along the road are attractions such as Flower Harbor Fish Viewing, Spring Dawn at Su Causeway, Leifeng Pagoda in Evening Glow, Orioles Singing in the Willows, Jingci Temple, and Qianwang Temple. Nearby are also scenic spots like Wu Hill Breeze, Dragon Well Tea Tasting, Tiger Running Spring Dream, Wansong Academy, and Gem-Studded Sunset Glow. Furthermore, historical and artistic landmarks like the China National Silk Museum, China Academy of Art, and Zhejiang Art Museum are embedded like diamonds along the way. To the west of Nanshan Road lies the beautiful West Lake. The road is lined with quiet cafés, where floor-to-ceiling windows spare no effort in framing the picturesque scenery outside. Soft music sometimes drifts through the air along with the faint aroma of coffee. From the lush canopies overhead to the unusually silent road surface, from a leisurely pace to the occasional glance upward—time seems to stand still here. A stroll along Nanshan Road is an absolute must. It’s a “headquarters” for the bohemian lifestyle, with bars, teahouses, art galleries, and even the China Academy of Art. Drinking tea here is all about the ambiance—far more than what you’d find back at home.
