Like Emperor Qianlong, wash your hands with Longjing water, sip on a cup of pre-Qingming Longjing tea that is “excellent in color, aroma, taste, and shape,” and experience the charm of tea culture. Longjing Village is situated southwest of the West Lake Scenic Area, encircled by mountains on all sides, sloping from north to south. It has nearly 800 acres of high-altitude tea gardens. To the northwest of the village, Beigaofeng (North Peak), Shizi Peak, and Tianzhu Peak form a natural barrier that blocks the cold northwest winds. To the south lies Jiuxi (Nine Creeks), a valley with deep and wide gullies that lead straight to the Qiantang River. The prevailing southeast winds in spring and summer easily drift into the valley, and the well-ventilated geographical conditions provide an ideal environment for the growth of Longjing tea. The Longjing tea produced here ranks first among the “Lion, Dragon, Cloud, and Tiger” varieties. Legend has it that when Emperor Qianlong visited the south of the Yangtze River, he stopped by Hugong Temple at the foot of Shifeng Mountain in Longjing Village to taste West Lake Longjing tea. After drinking it, he praised it endlessly and designated the 18 tea trees in front of the temple as “Imperial Tea.” The village is rich in tourism resources, featuring attractions such as the Imperial Tea Garden, Hugong Temple, Jiuxi Eighteen Gullies, Shilangdang, and Laolongjing, all of which add a strong cultural atmosphere to this tea-growing region. The renovation project has restored the landscape of mountain streams in Longjing Village, bringing back the mountainous scenery where farmhouses nestle along the streams. It has largely revived the natural village appearance characteristic of the West Lake Longjing tea region. “If you compare West Lake to Xi Shi, then good tea is like a beauty.” Here, the Longjing tea is mellow and fragrant, the fresh air is invigorating, and spending time with family and friends playing cards, chatting, and enjoying farm-style meals—such a life would make even the immortals envious.
