Santai Mountain Scenic Area

The Santai Cloud Water Scenic Area lies to the east of Yanggongdi, to the west of Santai Mountain Road, north of the Turtle Pond Scenic Area, and south of Hupao Road. It boasts the dual characteristics of Zhejiang’s mountainous terrain and the water town charm of the Jiangnan region. Nestled among mountains and waters, it features many cultural landscapes, among which the most significant is the burial site of Yu Qian, a national hero of the Ming Dynasty.

"The clouds are vast over the mountains, and the river flows mightily; the virtue of the master reaches far beyond the high mountains and long rivers." This famous line from the Song Dynasty literary figure Fan Zhongyan’s “Record of the Shrine of Master Yan” praises Yan Ziling, a noble hermit of the Eastern Han Dynasty. The Santai Cloud Water Scenic Area borrows this phrase to extol the lofty character of Yu Qian, a national hero of the Ming Dynasty. Both Yu Qian and Yan Ziling are historical figures renowned for their integrity and nobility.

The Santai Cloud Water Scenic Area consists of three main areas arranged from south to northwest: Yuhu Bay, Santai Dream Ruins, and the Tomb and Shrine of Yu Qian.

Santai Dream Ruins is made up of residential-style buildings such as the Lingquan Xian Guan (Spirit Spring Immortal Hall), Tianxiang Fayu (Heavenly Fragrance Dharma Rain), Xuehang (Snow Vessel), and Xianxian Tang (Hall of Sages). In particular, Xuehang is a thatched pavilion built by the water. Viewed from the Xijin Bridge, it resembles a small boat moored by the shore.

Santai Mountain Community: Established in March 2001, the Santai Mountain Community is located within the West Lake Scenic Area. Covering a total area of 8 square kilometers, the community encompasses five villages: Weng, Long, Man, Yang, and Shuangfeng. The residences are scattered, with a mix of rural and urban housing, set against steep and high terrain — making it a typical urban village community. The community currently has 1,236 households with a total population of 3,184.
