The Hangzhou Revolutionary Martyrs Memorial Hall is a classic red tourism destination and a patriotic education base.

The Hangzhou Revolutionary Martyrs Memorial Hall is located at No. 2 Zhijiang Road, on the north bank of the Qiantang River Bridge in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province.

Hangzhou is a heroic city with a glorious revolutionary tradition. Major events such as the Yaqian Peasant Movement, the First Normal School Incident, struggles within the Kuomintang Military Prison, and the Xindeng Campaign—all significant occurrences in Hangzhou—have had an important influence in Zhejiang and across the country.

The Hangzhou Revolutionary Martyrs Memorial Hall was expanded and renovated in 2009 on the foundation of the Cai Yongxiang Martyr Exhibition Hall, which was built in 1968. It is currently the only comprehensive base in Hangzhou dedicated to promoting revolutionary history and the deeds of martyrs. The main building of the memorial hall has been expanded from the original 800 square meters to 1,770 square meters, with the actual exhibition space increasing from 600 to 1,100 square meters. To better serve visitors, facilities such as a lecture hall and conference rooms have been added. The content covering revolutionary history has been enriched, adopting a "people-through-history, history-through-people" approach that integrates individuals with historical events, making the overall presentation richer and more compelling. More advanced exhibition methods have been employed to ensure the experience is vivid, engaging, and interactive.

In the outdoor square in front of the memorial hall stands a solemn memorial sculpture commemorating Cai Yongxiang’s sacrifice to save a train. Cai Yongxiang was a People’s Liberation Army soldier who guarded the Qiantang River Bridge. In the early hours of October 10, 1966, he gave his young life to remove a large piece of timber that had fallen onto the bridge’s railway tracks, thereby protecting the Qiantang River Bridge and ensuring the safety of train passengers. Along the downhill roadside near the square, a newly built Hangzhou Righteous Deeds Exhibition Hall has opened to the public—it is the first group-based memorial exhibition hall for righteous martyrs in China.

Between the mountain foot and the banks of the Qiantang River, standing tall in the center of a large green space, is the majestic and uniquely designed Hangzhou Liberation Monument. Built in 2001, the monument is entirely constructed with reddish-brown reinforced concrete, with a main structure approximately 18 meters high and 22 meters wide.

In February 1995, the Hangzhou Revolutionary Martyrs Memorial Hall was designated as a Zhejiang Provincial Patriotic Education Base by the Publicity Department of the Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China.
