Zijingang Campus of Zhejiang University is located in the Tangbei area in the western part of Hangzhou. Founded in 1897 as Qiushi Academy, Zhejiang University is one of the earliest modern higher education institutions independently established by the Chinese. It was among the first universities to be included in China's national "211 Project" and "985 Project."

Zhejiang University invested over 3 billion yuan to build a modern, networked, landscaped, and ecological campus—Zijingang Campus. Located in the Tangbei area in the western part of Hangzhou, it neighbors the famous and ancient Xixi Wetland Scenic Area. The campus is divided into east and west sections, with a total planned area of 5,856 mu. The east section broke ground in September 2001, covering an area of 3,192 mu; the west section has a planned construction area of about 5,500 mu, with a projected total floor space of over 1.2 million square meters, and construction began in May 2011.

The new campus project features high-standard planning, top-level design, and quality construction, with complete, advanced, and practical hardware facilities. It has initially achieved the construction goals of being "modern, networked, landscaped, and ecological." In terms of planning and design, renowned experts were engaged to fully leverage their creativity, striving for a style that balances unity within diversity and diversity within unity. The campus highlights the landscape style typical of a university, emphasizing the mutual enhancement between green spaces and main buildings. Throughout the construction of Zijingang Campus, the concept of "people-oriented" development has been consistently applied, aiming to create free learning environments and interactive atmospheres, and to improve students' overall quality. All designs and arrangements focus on cultivating creative talents. Zijingang Campus currently houses the university’s administrative offices, as well as colleges such as the College of Foreign Languages, College of Life Sciences, College of Medicine, College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Management, and School of Public Affairs.

The construction of the west section of Zijingang Campus is one of the key projects in Zhejiang University's 12th Five-Year Plan. It has a planned construction area of about 1.2 million square meters and covers approximately 2,664 mu of land. Once completed, it will accommodate 16 colleges (departments) and house around 15,000 graduate and international students. The majority of the construction projects are scheduled to be completed during the 12th Five-Year Plan period. To achieve this goal, the preliminary work and planning design for the west section projects have been progressing intensively and systematically. Zijingang West Campus aims to become a "modern, networked, landscaped, ecologically sustainable campus with rich Chinese cultural heritage."

Student dormitories at Zijingang Campus are divided into seven residential colleges: Lantian, Danyang, Qingxi, Ziyun, Bifeng, Baisha, and Cuibai.
