The Tomb of Yu Quyuan dates back to the Qing Dynasty and is located on Santai Mountain. Yu Quyuan (1821–1907), whose given name was Yue, courtesy name Yinpu, and literary name Quyuan, was a native of Deqing, Zhejiang. A renowned scholar in the late Qing period, he served as an editor at the Hanlin Academy and as the Educational Commissioner of Henan. He lectured at the Gujing Jing She in Hangzhou for over thirty years, and was highly knowledgeable in classical studies, the Book of Changes (Yi Jing), and literature. He left behind a substantial body of written works and was honored as a master of classical studies. The current tomb was renovated in 1992.

The Tomb of Yu Quyuan is a Hangzhou Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Unit, a classic red tourism site, and a patriotic education base.

The Tomb of Yu Quyuan dates back to the Qing Dynasty and is located on Santai Mountain.

Yu Quyuan (1821–1907), whose given name was Yue, courtesy name Yinpu, and literary name Quyuan, was a native of Deqing, Zhejiang. A famous scholar of the late Qing Dynasty, he held positions such as editor at the Hanlin Academy and Educational Commissioner of Henan. He taught at the Gujing Jing She in Hangzhou for more than thirty years and had profound knowledge in classical studies, the I Ching, and literature. He was the author of many works and was regarded as a master of classical scholarship. The present tomb was rebuilt in 1992.

Additionally: Near the tomb was the YouTai Xian Guan (Immortal Hall of Right Terrace), originally built by Yu Quyuan. After the death of his wife, Lady Yao, who was buried on YouTai Mountain (part of Santai Mountain), Yu constructed a house and named it “YouTai Xian Guan” next to her grave. Plans are underway to rebuild it near the original site to complement the Yu Quyuan Tomb.

Protected Area: East to the edge of the east path, south to the edge of the north path, west to the approximate 5-meter contour line, north extending about 5 meters beyond the cultural relic itself, covering a total area of 880 square meters.

Construction Control Zone: East to the secondary construction control zone of Yu Qian’s Tomb, south to the mountain ridge line, the wall of Goryeo Temple, and the southern boundary of the path, west to the approximate 30-meter contour line, north to the southern edge of the road, covering a total area of 12,900 square meters.

Yu Yue (1821–1907), courtesy name Yinpu, also known in his later years as Master Quyuan, was a native of Nandaiwei at the foot of Wuniu Mountain outside the eastern gate of Deqing (now Jinxing Village, Chengguan Town). He passed the imperial examination as a Juren (recommended man) in 1844 and as a Jinshi (presented scholar) in 1850, and was appointed a Shujishi (compiled scholar) at the Hanlin Academy. In 1852, he became an editor. In 1855, he served as an assistant compiler at the National History Office, and in August of the same year, he was appointed as the Educational Commissioner of Henan. In July 1857, the censor Cao Ze impeached Yu Yue for splitting phrases in exam questions inappropriately, which nearly resulted in his execution. Later, through petitions for leniency, he was dismissed from office and returned to civilian life. The following spring, he returned south and lived in Yinmaqiao, Suzhou. Santai Mountain Community: Established in March 2001, Santai Mountain Community is located within the West Lake Scenic Area. Covering a total area of 8 square kilometers, the community encompasses five villages: Weng, Long, Man, Yang, and Shuangfeng. The residential areas are scattered, with a mix of rural and urban housing, situated in steep, mountainous terrain, making it a typical urban-village community. It currently has 1,236 households and a total population of 3,184.
