Long Bridge Park

Long Bridge Park, located at the southeastern corner of West Lake in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, sits beside Changqiao on Nanshan Road. Long Bridge is one of the three most romantic bridges at West Lake. One legend says that Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai were bid farewell here after eighteen farewells, walking back and forth across the bridge for eighteen li, with Zhu Yingtai using objects to symbolize their feelings, offering eighteen metaphors—hence the saying “the road is long, but the bridge is not.” Another tale tells of Wang Xuanjiao, a commoner from the Southern Song Dynasty, and Tao Shier, who fell in love freely but were opposed by Tao’s stepmother. The two committed suicide together by the lotus pond at Long Bridge. Thus, “Long Bridge is not long, Broken Bridge is not broken, and Lonely Hill is not lonely” are known as the “Three Wonders of West Lake.”
