Bai Lu

Bai Lu

Bai Lu is a cultural relic protection unit of Hangzhou.

Bai Lu is located at No. 622 Fengqi Road in Hangzhou and is a building from the Republican era. To its left is the city moat, and to its right is Zhaoqing Temple. It once served as the official residence of Du Zhenyuan, Director of the Zhejiang-Jiangxi Railway Bureau, and later Huang Shaoxiong, Chairman of the Zhejiang Provincial Government. The courtyard layout and main structure have retained their original appearance despite over sixty years of weathering.

Shortly after the “Xi’an Incident” in 1937, Zhou Enlai, Ye Jianying, Chiang Kai-shek, and others held secret talks here, laying the foundation for the Second United Front between the Nationalists and Communists. The building served as the Hangzhou Railway Bai Lu Guesthouse. During the “One Vertical and Three Horizontal” urban renewal project, the main structure and courtyard layout of Bai Lu were preserved, while the plants within the courtyard were rearranged and the building façade was renovated.

Protected area: Within the existing perimeter wall, extending south to the construction control zone of the former Zhaoqing Temple site and approximately 3 meters beyond the gatehouse on the south side of Fengqi Road, with a total area of 3,332 square meters.

Construction control zone: East to Taohua River, south to the northern edge of Fengqi Road, west to Chenghexia Road, and overlapping with the protected area to the north, with a total area of 9,975 square meters.
