Cixi Museum

Cixi Museum is located to the north of the picturesque Zhishan Park, situated at the western end of Zhishan Cultural Square, facing Hangzhou Bay Hotel across Sishan Road. The museum faces west with an overall eastward orientation and features an axial layout, covering a total area of 7,822 square meters. The main building of the museum complex occupies 2,000 square meters and is a three-story antique-style concrete structure topped with yellow glazed tiles. Its exterior walls are inlaid with emerald-green tiles resembling the glaze color of celadon, symbolizing Cixi’s outstanding status in the history of Chinese celadon culture.

Cixi Museum is a museum rich in local characteristics. Its collections mainly consist of Yue Kiln celadon, along with various other categories including calligraphy and paintings, coins, bronze ware, and antique furniture. It houses a total of over 3,000 cultural relics from different dynasties, among which more than 300 are classified as first-, second-, or third-grade precious artifacts. The Northern Song Dynasty Yue Kiln celadon “Three-Legged Toad Water Pot” and the Southern Song Dynasty “Longxing Tongbao” coin are the museum’s prized treasures, with the “Three-Legged Toad Water Pot” being a national top-grade relic.

The first floor of the museum serves as a temporary exhibition hall, regularly hosting various art exhibitions, science popularization displays, and local historical and cultural exhibitions, playing an active role in broadening the public’s horizons and enriching cultural life. The second floor features the “Cixi Historical Relics Exhibition,” which uses over 200 representative artifacts to showcase the splendid achievements of celadon culture, immigrant culture, and land reclamation culture left behind through Cixi’s millennia-long history. The third floor mainly hosts thematic exhibition halls, including a display on Eastern Zhejiang folk customs themed around “Nongjiale” (rural tourism).
