Yang Xianjiang Memorial Hall

The Yang Xianjiang Memorial Hall is located west of the former residence of Yang Xianjiang in Xianjiang Village, Changhe Town, Cixi City. It was completed and opened to the public in 2004.

Upon entering the main gate of the memorial hall, visitors will see a bust of Yang Xianjiang made of white marble. Behind it is his maxim: “With both feet standing on a sky full of stars, and hands steering the vast land.” On either side are evaluations of him by the former Vice Premier of the State Council — and former Minister of Education Zhang Chengxian. The exhibition is divided into six sections: “Student Days,” “Formation of Beliefs,” “Steadfast Fighter,” “Mentor to Youth,” “Educational Innovation,” and “Legacy in History.” These sections use rich and detailed textual materials to authentically recreate the extraordinary life of Yang Xianjiang. The hall also houses cultural relics that he once used, such as his wristwatch and blankets, as well as manuscripts, diaries, and books he personally wrote.

The former residence of Yang Xianjiang and its memorial hall are fully equipped with basic facilities. The green area covers 3,000 square meters, with a total investment of over 3 million yuan. To date, nearly 100,000 citizens have visited to pay their respects and receive patriotic education.

Yang Xianjiang (1895–1931), also known as Yingfu, used the pen names Li Haowu, Li Yingyang, among others. He was from Xiadianqiao, Yuyao (now Fenjiang Village, Changhe Town, Cixi). In the third year of the Xuantong reign of the Qing Dynasty (1911), he graduated from Chengyi School in Simen and the following year entered the First Provincial Normal School. He graduated in 1917 and returned to Yuyao to serve as a lecturer at the Summer Education Research Association. In the autumn of the same year, he worked as a staff member at Nanjing Higher Normal School while auditing university courses. In 1919, he joined the Young China Society and served as the secretary of its Nanjing branch. Xianjiang Village: Xianjiang Village is located in the western part of Changhe Town and consists of the former Xianjiang Village and Huinong Village. The Changmiao Highway and Zhongheng Line run through it. It neighbors Changfeng Village to the east, Yunzhong Village of Zhouxiang Town to the south, Dianqiao Village to the west, and Yunhai Village to the north. The village office is located on the south side of Nanda Road, at No. 8 Xianjiang Village Xinggong Road. The total area is 1.75 square kilometers. The village currently has 1,027 households with a population of 2,941. There are also 227 residents in the area and over 1,200 registered temporary residents.
