Buddha’s Footprint Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

Buddha’s Footprint Temple is an ancient temple situated on the summit of Dapeng Mountain. Its origin is tied to a nearby Buddha’s Footprint Cave. It is said that in the first year of the Tianbao era of the Tang Dynasty (742 AD), a wandering monk named Dahui arrived at the mountain and found the long-deserted Buddha’s Footprint Cave, which contained a footprint believed to be that of Guanyin. Interpreting it as a divine mark, he constructed this majestic temple. Originally, there were also a Middle Buddha’s Footprint Temple and a Lower Buddha’s Footprint Temple, but now only ruins remain.

The reconstructed Buddha’s Footprint Temple, centered around the “Millennium Buddha’s Footprint,” once again showcases the grandeur of the ancient temple. Along the main axis of the worship area, the temple features, in sequence, the Heavenly King Hall (Mountain Gate), the Main Hall, and the Scripture Depository, with corner towers on the east and west, as well as the Patriarch Hall, Sangharama Hall, Medicine Buddha Hall, Amitabha Hall, and corridors arranged on both sides, together forming the main worship space of the temple.

The pilgrim dormitories, monks’ quarters, and chanting hall form courtyards that are terraced from north to south. On the eastern side are the Abbot’s Quarters, vegetarian restaurant, bell tower, dining hall, and lay practitioners’ dormitories, with the Guanyin Hall situated separately at the eastern end.

As the saying goes, “Worship the celestial Buddhist kingdom in the east, and pray for blessings at this millennia-old sacred site in the west.” The renowned Buddha’s Footprint Temple of eastern Zhejiang stands atop the lush Dapeng Mountain, safeguarding peace for all worshippers.
