Cixi New Century Square

New Century Square is an exquisite place, high in the center and low around the edges, with geometric symmetry that is grand, spectacular, and beautiful. Viewed from the Radio and Television Center Building, lush green lawns cluster around tall, sparse trees, dotted with red, yellow, purple, and white flowers, and embracing a crystal-clear fountain pool.

The Radio and Television Center Building on the north side of New Century Square is a modern high-rise building with a distinct silhouette, clad in granite. Its television signal tower stands tall and proud above the surrounding cluster of buildings, majestic and solemn, truly embodying the master of the new century. To the east lies the sports stadium, featuring a cable-stayed structure with simple geometric forms blended with soft curves, and a creatively designed wheel-like shape. At the southern edge of the square, the sound of reading fills the air, with the well-arranged buildings of Cixi High School. The square and its surrounding scenery blend seamlessly, making the 26,936-square-meter plaza appear both dignified and marvelous.

The square’s entrance gate is made of white marble, combining arcs and straight lines with profound meaning. Stepping into the square, you’ll find clearly defined yet harmoniously varied sections: the entrance landscape, dry fountain, Century Plaza, entertainment and leisure area, shaded gathering zone, and green spaces. On holidays and sunny days, the sky is blue, the ground green, and the water clear. Kites soar in the sky, colorful balloons float and dance, creating a delightful sight; below, the fountain sprays like flying blossoms and splashing jade, with jets of water shooting up to form cascading curtains, rising and falling in height, encircled by interlaced columns, crystal-clear as jade trees and silver branches. On quiet nights with a clear moon, the lights are colorful, and strollers are endless, accompanied by laughter and song. The multicolored reflections under the fountain resemble stars in the sky, twinkling with the glow of sunset clouds, giving the square a dreamlike beauty. On ordinary days, the square is serene and tranquil—sit under the shade of trees or a flower trellis, whether reading, chatting, or playing chess, "you can think of anything or nothing at all," and you’ll find yourself immersed in a completely different realm.

New Century Square was completed in April 2000, seemingly a testament to how the people of Cixi in the new century are wholeheartedly striving to build a modern green ecological city where humans and nature coexist in harmony.
