Liansi Pond Park
Liansi Pond Park
Located in Minzhu Village, Wangjiangjing Town, Xiuzhou District, Liansi Pond Park is the first farmers' park in Jiaxing City. It consists of three parts: the Liu Chengzhong Memorial Hall, Liansi Pond Park, and Liu Gong Pagoda. Covering an area of 90 acres, Liansi Pond Park is situated in the water network region of northern Jiaxing, close to the Zhejiang entrance of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. The park is divided into two sections by a pond: the eastern part is a garden-style classical Chinese garden, where willows sway gently, flowers and trees flourish, and clear water, green trees, and red blooms complement each other beautifully. A winding corridor is built along the pond, featuring a central lake pavilion. At the head of the corridor is the park’s main structure—the Wanghu Tower—a three-story classical building. The western section houses the Liu Chengzhong Memorial Hall. According to the Jiaxing Prefecture Records, during the late Yuan Dynasty, the region was severely plagued by locusts, which devastated crops and led to widespread famine and suffering. Influenced by feudal superstitions at the time, local farmers believed that locusts were divine and could not be killed, so they simply resigned themselves to their fate. Liu Chengzhong of the Yuan Dynasty, upon learning of the disaster, took the lead in breaking the superstition. He mobilized officials and local residents to combat the locust plague and provide disaster relief, earning deep love and respect from the people. The locals honored him as General Liu Meng and built a temple with a statue in his honor.
