Xiaopenglai Park

Xiaopenglai was first built over 1,400 years ago as the Huanqing House of Nengren Temple, and was turned into a park in 1931. Covering an area of over 10,000 square meters, the park is surrounded by water on all sides, boasts picturesque scenery, a tranquil environment, a secluded garden, and winding paths. In the morning mist, pavilions and towers nearby and in the distance appear and disappear, creating the illusion of being in the ethereal, mist-covered Penglai fairyland. It was therefore renamed Xiaopenglai in the third year of the Guangxu reign (1877). After going through several wars, Xiaopenglai gradually fell into decline. On May 13, 1938, when Japanese invaders set fire to Xincheng Town, Xiaopenglai also suffered from the blaze and was nearly destroyed, resembling a desolate island. After gradual restoration, the former scenic spot regained its charm. Today, the government is planning to expand the park southward to build the Xiaopenglai Leisure Park, truly returning the park to the people.
