Huangfen Mountain Tomb Cluster
The Huangfen Mountain Tomb Cluster is a Zhejiang Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit.
The Huangfen Mountain Tomb Cluster is located in Jiuli Village, Xincheng Subdistrict, Xiuzhou District, Jiaxing City. It lies 500 meters west of Liren Bridge, south of the Xinchen River, north of the farmland of Group 2 in Muqiaogang Village, and 100 meters east of Xiuzhou Avenue.
Analysis of the unearthed relics indicates that this is an Eastern Han earthen mound tomb cluster. One notably large mound stretches 80 meters from north to south and 60 meters from east to west, covering an area of approximately 4,800 square meters, resembling a small earthen hill. Locally, it is commonly known as “Wangwen Mountain” (an incorrect transcription by early surveyors who heard it as Huangfen Mountain, a name later retained when the site was designated as a cultural relic protection unit). A large number of Han Dynasty bricks, mostly plain and undecorated, have been excavated from the mound. In September 1975, during excavation at a depth of 50 centimeters, a late Eastern Han jade pot was discovered. A rescue excavation at the site found, at a depth of one meter, the remains of a damaged tomb containing one bell, one pottery stove, nine pottery jars, and nine jin of wuzhu coins. This tomb cluster provides important physical evidence for the study of burial customs and the political, economic, and cultural aspects of Jiaxing during the late Eastern Han period, and holds significant historical and cultural value.
In January 2011, it was designated as part of the sixth batch of Zhejiang Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Units.
