Zhongjiagang Site

The Zhongjiagang Site is a cultural heritage conservation unit of Jiaxing City.

The Zhongjiagang Site is located in Group 9, Silian Village, Wangdian Town, Xiuzhou District, Jiaxing City. To the east is Nanhu Avenue, to the south is Zhongjiagang with a cluster of residential houses, to the west is a village road, and to the north are mulberry fields and rapeseed fields. The site is trapezoidal in shape, covering an area of approximately 20,000 square meters, and is an early settlement site of the Majiabang Culture from the Neolithic Age. The surface of the site is currently planted with mulberry trees, with a high-voltage power line tower standing in the middle. The central part was damaged during the excavation of Zhongjiagang, where the river was dug to a width of about 10 meters. The cultural layer is about 1.10 meters thick, with a relatively uniform cultural type, rich artifacts, and fairly well-preserved remains. A large number of pottery fragments and numerous animal bones have been discovered. The pottery fragments are mostly sandy red pottery, along with some clay red pottery, featuring a red surface with black cores and plain surfaces. Artifact types include waist-rimmed cauldrons and open basins. The Zhongjiagang Site belongs to the early Majiabang Culture, dating back to an early period with unique artifact types, and holds significant historical and scientific value. It was designated as a municipal-level cultural heritage conservation unit of Jiaxing City in 1992.
