The Wujia Bang Site
The Wujia Bang Site is a Zhejiang Provincial Cultural Heritage Protection Unit.
The Wujia Bang Site is located in Wujia Bang Natural Village, Laulongqiao Village, Xincheng Town, Xiuzhou District, Jiaxing City. It borders Wujia Bang to the north (now partially filled), a river to the southwest, and fields and villages to the east. Based on unearthed artifacts, it is identified as belonging to the late Majiabang Culture of the Neolithic Age, covering an area of approximately 33,000 square meters. Trial excavations conducted in 1981 revealed that the stratified deposits are divided into three layers: The first layer is a disturbed plow soil layer, about 30–40 cm thick, where a small number of modern bricks, tiles, and celadon shards were found; the second layer is the cultural layer, divided into upper and lower parts. The upper part is about 5–18 cm thick, with a grayish-brown mottled soil color that has a relatively clear boundary from the first layer. It contains a small amount of fragmented pottery and small pieces of red fired earth. The lower part is about 5–20 cm thick, with no significant difference in soil color from the upper part but with differing soil texture. A small number of fragmented pottery pieces and small pieces of red fired earth were found, with some fired earth bearing impressions of reeds. The third cultural layer is 10–40 cm thick, with a noticeably different soil texture from the second layer and mixed with plant ash. It yielded a considerable number of animal bones—including cattle, pig, deer, and fish bones—as well as many pottery fragments and large pieces of red fired earth with imprints. Due to the small scale of the survey and trial excavation, no intact artifacts were found. A total of 355 selected pottery shards were collected, from which vessel shapes such as cauldrons, tripods, bean pots, jars, bowls, and ewers could be identified, with fewer pedestals. This site covers a large area, exhibits distinct cultural characteristics, and holds significant historical and scientific value. It was designated as a Zhejiang Provincial-level Cultural Heritage Protection Unit in 2017.

The village covers an area of 4.53 square kilometers, with a contracted arable land area of 4,417 mu—including 3,258 mu of paddy fields, 479 mu of dry land, and 310 mu of fish ponds.
