Pinghu Folk Custom Museum
The Pinghu Folk Custom Museum is located at the eastern end of Huancheng North Road in Pinghu City, west of the East Lake Scenic Area. It is a thematic museum dedicated to the collection, research, and exhibition of ethnic, folk, and vernacular culture. Designated as a national AA-level tourist attraction, a patriotic education base, and a science education base in Jiaxing, the museum opened in 2002. It currently features two exhibition areas: one is the Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection and Exhibition Center, and the other is the Farming Culture Exhibition Center.
Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection and Exhibition Center Located within the main building of the Pinghu Folk Custom Museum, it covers a land area of 1,820 square meters and has a construction area of 1,750 square meters. The main structure was originally the residence of the wealthy Lu family from Pinghu, built in the 1930s. It is one of the well-preserved and relatively large-scale buildings from the Republican era in the Pinghu area. The exhibition center showcases the city’s intangible cultural heritage treasures listed at the national, provincial, and municipal levels, focusing on items such as the Pinghu School of pipa, Banzishu storytelling, the Nine-Color Dragon dance, watermelon lanterns, fermented duck eggs, and local cloth. Through scene-based, reconstructed, and illustrative displays covering three aspects—dance and sports, crafts and fine arts, music and opera—it offers an ideal venue to appreciate the rich and splendid intangible cultural heritage of “Golden Pinghu” and to engage in patriotic education and cultural leisure tourism. The Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Center opened to the public in June 2009.
Farming Culture Exhibition Center Located in the Golden Dragon Gate Ecological Leisure Park in Guangchen Town, the center spans over 50 acres and includes cultural tourism functional zones such as a farming culture exhibition corridor, a folk square, an animal competition area, an oil pressing workshop, field farming experiences, and outdoor barbecues. It serves as an important extension base for social education achieved through collaboration between cultural and business entities and resource sharing.
