Haiyan Baiyun Pavilion
Haiyan Baiyun Pavilion is a cultural tourism attraction.
Baiyun Pavilion was built in 1997 and is located on the west side of Yunxiu Nunnery on Yingke Ding Mountain, at an altitude of 165 meters. A road in front of the pavilion leads through Tanxian Stone City to Nanbeihu Lake, making transportation convenient. The pavilion is constructed of reinforced concrete, square in shape, with each side measuring 13 meters, three stories high, and a total height of 18.3 meters, covering a floor area of 493 square meters. The pavilion has a yellow glazed tile roof, with upturned corners, and wind chimes hanging from each corner of every floor that tinkle in the breeze.
Inside the pavilion, there are exhibits on the life of Confucius and a list of top imperial examination scholars from Haiyan County throughout history.
The ground floor of the pavilion is surrounded by corridors with benches (known as "beauty's lean") where visitors can rest.
The second floor has a viewing platform with murals painted along the walls. From the pavilion, visitors can look out to the sea in the front, watch the tides in the back, and see Yingke Ding Mountain and Nanmu Mountain on either side, making it a great spot for tea tasting and sightseeing.
To the west of the pavilion is a garden covering twelve acres, separated by a floral wall and accessible through a moon gate. Amidst the flowers and trees stands a newly built statue of Confucius, 8 meters tall, sculpted by Ge Huijun, a member of a renowned sculpture family from Shandong, based on the Ming Dynasty image of Confucius teaching. It features various legendary marks associated with Confucius, inspiring reverence. In front of the statue are figures of the “Four Companions” — Yan Hui, Zeng Shen, Zisi, and Mencius, forming a complete set of Confucian sculptures. Below the group of statues is a flat plaza, 17 meters long and 9.5 meters wide, where visitors can pay their respects and take photos.
