Tide Sound Pavilion

Tide Sound Pavilion is a cultural tourism attraction.

Tide Sound Pavilion stands on the seashore at the eastern edge of Wuyuan Town, backed by the bustling urban area to the north and facing the surging Hangzhou Bay. It is a newly built pavilion in recent years, providing both locals of Haiyan and tourists from elsewhere with a scenic leisure spot. Construction began in August 1989 and it was completed during the Spring Festival in 1992.

The pavilion is a three-story antique-style building, featuring a classic design, a golden roof, and exquisitely crafted corners. It covers a total area of 1,723 square meters, with a total floor area of 703 square meters. It has three above-ground floors and one basement level, reaching a total height of 19 meters, with each floor measuring 12 meters in both width and depth. Each side of every floor is surrounded by railings.

Climbing to the top and looking into the distance, visitors can take in the surrounding scenery in all directions. To the east lies the sea, dotted with distant sails, rolling mountains, and flying seabirds, while the magnificent sound of the tide echoes in your ears. To the south is China’s first nuclear power plant — the Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant. To the west is the urban area, where the twinkling lights of thousands of households are clearly visible at night. To the north is Zhapu Port, which remains clearly visible on clear days.

Listening to the Tide Sounds at Tide Sound Pavilion: Due to geographical factors, the tides in Haiyan County may not be as spectacular as the tidal bore at Haining, but during high tide, the waves roll in gently, one after another. The pleasant sound of the tides is indescribable — it resembles the music of ancient bianzhong bells from the Warring States period or the melody of an ancient guqin playing "High Mountains and Flowing Water." The more you listen, the more enchanted you become. This is truly the voice of nature, hence the name: listening to the tide sounds at Tide Sound Pavilion.
