Piaomu Dun Site
The Piaomu Dun Site is a cultural heritage conservation unit of Zhejiang Province.
The Piaomu Dun Site is located in Zhennan Village, Tongyuan Town, Haiyan County. The site consists of an earthen mound and the surrounding paddy fields, encircled by water on all sides, covering an area of about 30,000 square meters, with slightly higher terrain in the central part.
The earthen mound is 6 meters high and contains cultural layers from the late Songze Culture, as well as the Liangzhu and Maqiao Cultures. The paddy fields around the mound have layers of ash soil about 0.2–0.95 meters thick. Artifacts unearthed here include perforated stone axes, sand-tempered red pottery tripods, and clay gray pottery three-legged vessels dating from the late Songze Culture to the Liangzhu Culture. These items feature relatively unique shapes, with some of higher craftsmanship. Nearby, samples such as printed-pattern glazed pottery with round bases and hard pottery animal-shaped objects have also been collected. The Piaomu Dun Site is an ancient cultural site rich in cultural content and spanning a wide range of time periods, existing from the Neolithic Age to the Bronze Age. It is an important site for studying the patterns of change and development, as well as the gradual evolution process of primitive settlements.
