Prime Minister's Mansion Historical Street

Prime Minister's Mansion Historical Street is a distinctive cultural block centered around the close relationship between the Prime Minister’s Mansion—Chen the Elder’s Residence—and Emperor Qianlong, rich in historical and cultural significance and recreating the charm of an ancient thousand-year-old Jiangnan city. It is located within the Haining Yanguan Tidal Bore Scenic Area (see: Yanguan Tidal Bore Scenic Area guide map).

The block consists of four main scenic areas: the City Gate, Teahouses, Cultural Sites, and the Town God’s Temple. Among them, the Xuan De Gate, city gate, drawbridge, military drilling platform, and armory form the City Gate landscape; the Jiangnan Folk Customs Museum, the Jiangnan Famous Plaques and Couplets Museum, the Covered Bridge, Yi Xiao Lou, and tea break spots form the Teahouse and Exhibition scenic area; Chen the Elder’s Residence, the National Go Sage Institute, General Yang’s Residence, and the former home of Zheng Xiaocang form the Cultural landscape; and the Town God’s Temple along with traditional commercial buildings on both sides form the Town God’s Temple landscape.

The street blends the residences of famous figures, official mansions, ancient temples of the Town God, traditional shops, and folk culture, exuding a timeless charm and unique flair. One could say that without the majestic tides of Haining, there would be no profound Wang Guowei; similarly, without the mysterious allure of Chen the Elder’s Residence on Prime Minister's Mansion Historical Street, there might never have been the imaginative brilliance of Jin Yong. Strolling through the block is like stepping into the fantasy world of Jin Yong’s martial arts novels.

Ticket Information:

No entrance fee is required to walk around the street. However, Chen the Elder’s Residence requires a ticket of 25 RMB. Alternatively, purchasing the combined Yanguan Tidal Bore Scenic Area ticket for 100 RMB also includes entry to this site.
