2015 China Rock Midi Awards Announced: Sound Toy Sweeps Four “Bricks”

       12Month12Day,2015(7th) China Rock Midi Awards ceremony concluded at the third-floor concert hall of Beijing’s Sugar Club, with veteran rocker Wang Di andNova Heartband frontwoman Feng Haining serving as hosts. On-site, thirteen major awards that best represent the2015year’s achievements in China’s rock music scene were13announced. The veteran band Sound Toy from Chengdu took home four “bricks,” making them the biggest winners. 

　　All awards were announced that evening: Chen Li won Best New Rock Artist of the Year, Yecha took home Best Heavy Rock Band of the Year, Hai Liang, guqin performer of the band Swamp, received Best Rock Instrumentalist of the Year,Nova Heartband’s Feng Haining was named Best Female Rock Singer of the Year, Best Live Performance of the Year went to Zero One, and Best Album Design of the Year was awarded toNova Heartband for their self-titled album. Wan Xiaoli received Best Folk Music of the Year. After careful crafting and years of refinement, Sound Toy released their new album *Love Is Expensive* in12, earning praise from fans and judges alike, and ultimately winning Best Rock Album of the Year. Their single *Tomorrow You’ll Still Be By My Side* also claimed Best Rock Song of the Year. The band rightfully earned Best Rock Band of the Year, and their frontman Ou Jiayuan was named Best Male Rock Singer of the Year. The Contribution to Chinese Rock award was presented by Chairman Zhang Fan to Beijing’sLivehouseYugong Yishan, while Smother won the Midi Committee Award. 

　　Guests who presented awards included Wang Jingjing, President of the National Music Industry Promotion Committee; Li Hongjie, founder of Wild Horse Live; Wang Lei, Senior Director of NetEase Cloud Music; Li Yu, General Manager of Youku Tudou Music Center; Xie Yu, Director of Performance and Ticketing at Kuwo Music; renowned musicians Zhang Chu and Ma Ma of the band Mumma;SUBSband’s lead singer Kang Mao; renowned rock photographer Yan Min; and Chai Dongxin, among others. 

　　Band performances interspersed throughout the award ceremony repeatedly brought the audience to a fever pitch. Nuclear FusionG, SubversionM, Wang Weima, Smother, Wan Xiaoli, and Sound Toy delivered spectacular live shows that thrilled the crowd, making for a long-awaited2015Beijing Midi Festival finale.
