Jin Yong’s Former Residence
Jin Yong’s Former Residence – Yuanhua is located at Group 1, Xinwei Village, Yuanhua Town, Haining City (He Shan Fang), and was the former home and birthplace of the renowned wuxia novelist Jin Yong.
Yuanhua features beautiful mountains and clear waters, and has long been honored as the “Town of Gardens.” The town lies against verdant bamboo hills, with the Huaxi Bridge bathed in the morning light spanning the Huaxi Stream, quietly embellishing the flowing waters. The ancient Huaxi Street is flanked by vibrant blooms and shady trees, together forming a richly colored painting of a Jiangnan water town.
Jin Yong’s Former Residence is situated in the Zhajia family compound in Xinwei, Yuanhua. The Zhajia family was renowned during the Qing Dynasty with “ten scholars in one family and three brothers as Hanlin academicians,” and was praised by Emperor Kangxi as “a great family since the Tang and Song dynasties, one of the finest households in the south of the Yangtze.”
At first glance, Jin Yong’s Former Residence features white walls and gray-tiled houses. The first thing you see is the “Gallery of Seventy-Two Knights,” inspired by characters in Jin Yong’s works. Turning right leads to the study room – He Shan Fang – and walking further west takes you to the “Exploring Jin Yong” exhibition hall.
