The former residence of Wang Guowei is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The former residence of Wang Guowei is located in Zhoujiadou, inside the west gate of Yanguan Tide-Watching Scenic Area in Haining City. It was where the modern master of Chinese studies, Wang Guowei, lived during his childhood. The original residential walls, stone gate, and entrance gate no longer exist, but the main buildings were restored to their original appearance between June 1985 and July 1986.

The current courtyard faces south, and the buildings are made of wood. A half-length bronze statue of Wang Guowei is placed in the center of the front hall. The exhibits are divided into three sections: the first introduces Wang Guowei’s hometown, family background, and life; the second showcases his major academic achievements, displaying various works and manuscripts by Wang; the third features research works on Wang Guowei by scholars from China and abroad.

Wang Guowei, courtesy name Jing’an, art name Guantang, was a native of Haining. A renowned scholar of the modern era, he initially studied philosophy and literature. From 1907, he worked at the Library of the Ministry of Education in Beijing, researching the history of Chinese opera and lyric poetry. After the Xinhai Revolution, he went to Japan to specialize in Confucian classics, philology, epigraphy, and oracle bone script.

In 1924, he was appointed as a tutor at the Tsinghua Research Institute in Beijing. His major works include *A History of Song and Yuan Opera*, *Five Studies on Ancient Bronze Inscriptions by Guantang*, and *An Overview of Ancient Ritual Vessels*.

Wang Guowei (1877–1927), courtesy names Boyu and Jing’an, art names Guantang and Yongguan, was a Han Chinese from Yanguan Town, Haining, Zhejiang Province. He was a successful candidate in the imperial examination system of the late Qing Dynasty. He was an eminent scholar in literature, aesthetics, historiography, philosophy, ancient scripts, and archaeology in modern China, and a master of Chinese studies.

Wang Guowei, a modern scholar and poet, courtesy name Jing’an, also known as Boyu, with the art names Guantang and Yongguan, was a native of Haining, Zhejiang. Born in the third year of the Guangxu reign during the Qing Dynasty, he died in 1927 at the age of 51.
