Zan Mountain Site
The Zan Mountain Site is a Haining Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Unit.
The Zan Mountain Site is located in Gaofeng Village, Shilu, Xieshi Subdistrict. Dating back to the Neolithic Age, it is classified as an ancient site.
On February 16, 1982, the Zan Mountain Site was designated as a Haining Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Unit.
Xieshi Subdistrict: Located on the Hangjiahu Plain, Xieshi Subdistrict got its name from the presence of two mountains—East Mountain and West Mountain. It was known as Xiashi during the Tang Dynasty before being renamed Xieshi. In the sixth year of the Yonghui era of the Song Dynasty (655), Xieshi Town was established; in the eleventh year of the Kaiyuan era (723), Xieshi Market was set up; during the Huichang era (841–844), Xieshi Town was re-established; and in the fourth year of the Jianyan era of the Southern Song Dynasty (1130), Xieshi Stockade was formed. The area has long been known for its strong academic tradition, simple folk customs, and numerous notable figures. It boasts cultural landmarks such as the former residences of Xu Zhimo and Zhang Zongxiang, as well as the Qian Juntao Art Research Museum. Xieshi lanterns are also widely renowned.
