Nanguanxiang is located at No. 44, Nanguanxiang Street, Xiasishi Subdistrict. Dating back to the Ming Dynasty, it is classified as an ancient architectural structure.

On August 17, 1989, Nanguanxiang was designated as a cultural relic protection unit of Haining City.

Xiasishi Subdistrict: Located on the Hangjiahu Plain, Xiasishi Subdistrict got its current name during the Tang Dynasty when “Xiashi” was changed to “Xiasishi” due to the presence of an eastern and a western hill. In the sixth year of the Yonghui era of the Song Dynasty (655), Xiasishi Town was established; in the eleventh year of the Kaiyuan era (723), Xiasishi Market was set up. It was re-established as a town during the Huichang era (841–844) and became Xiasishi Stockade in the fourth year of the Jianyan era of the Southern Song Dynasty (1130). The area has long been known for its strong academic tradition, simple folk customs, and a steady stream of notable figures. It is home to cultural sites such as the former residences of Xu Zhimo and Zhang Zongxiang, as well as the Qian Juntao Art Research Museum. Xiasishi lanterns are also widely renowned.
