Base of Zhibiao Pagoda
The base of Zhibiao Pagoda is a cultural heritage site protected by Haining City.
The base of Zhibiao Pagoda is located on the eastern hilltop of Xieshi Subdistrict. It dates back to the late Yuan Dynasty and is categorized as an ancient site.
On July 28, 2003, the base of Zhibiao Pagoda was designated as a cultural heritage site under the protection of Haining City.
Xieshi Subdistrict: Situated on the Hangjiahu Plain, Xieshi Subdistrict got its name when the area, originally called Xiashi, was renamed during the Tang Dynasty due to the presence of two hills, east and west. In the sixth year of the Yonghui era of the Song Dynasty (655), Xieshi Town was established; in the eleventh year of the Kaiyuan era (723), Xieshi Market was set up; during the Huichang era (841–844), Xieshi Town was re-established; and in the fourth year of the Jianyan era of the Southern Song Dynasty (1130), Xieshi Stockade was formed. The area has long been known for its strong academic tradition, simple folk customs, and a wealth of notable figures. It is home to cultural landmarks such as the former residences of Xu Zhimo and Zhang Zongxiang, as well as the Qian Juntao Art Research Museum. Xieshi lanterns are also famous far and wide.
