Former Residence of Wu Shichang
The former residence of Wu Shichang is a Haining Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Unit.
The former residence of Wu Shichang is located at No. 125 Nanguanxiang, Xieshi Subdistrict. Dating back to the Republican era, it is classified as a modern-era important historical site and representative architecture.
On July 28, 2003, the former residence of Wu Shichang was designated as a Haining Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Unit.
Xieshi Subdistrict: Situated on the Hangjiahu Plain, Xieshi Subdistrict was historically known as Xiashi. It got its current name during the Tang Dynasty due to the presence of two mountains, east and west. In the sixth year of the Yonghui era of the Song Dynasty (655), Xieshi Town was established; in the eleventh year of the Kaiyuan era (723), Xieshi Market was set up; during the Huichang era (841–844), Xieshi Town was re-established; and in the fourth year of the Jianyan era of the Southern Song Dynasty (1130), Xieshi Stockade was founded. The area has long been known for its strong academic tradition, simple and honest folk customs, and a wealth of notable figures. It is home to cultural sites such as the former residences of Xu Zhimo and Zhang Zongxiang, as well as the Qian Juntao Art Research Museum. Xieshi lanterns are also widely renowned.
