Haining Yangshan Academy
Haining Yangshan Academy is a cultural heritage site protected by Haining City.
Haining Yangshan Academy is located at No. 96 Qingnian Road, Chang’an Town, and dates back to the Qing Dynasty. It is categorized as an ancient architectural structure.
Yangshan Academy is located within Haining Middle School in Chang’an Town (High-Tech Zone). Its construction was initiated in the fifth year of the Jiaqing reign during the Qing Dynasty (1800) and completed in the seventh year (1802). At its height, the academy was quite expansive and is the only remaining Qing Dynasty Shu-style building in Haining City. It also serves as an important physical testament to the educational reforms in Zhejiang during the late Qing period.
On July 28, 2003, Haining Yangshan Academy was designated as a cultural heritage site protected by Haining City.
Chang’an Town: A town under the jurisdiction of Haining City. In 1958, the Chang’an People’s Commune was established, which was restructured as a county-administered town in 1961. In 1992, Chang’an Township was merged into the town. Covering an area of 43.1 square kilometers with a population of 52,000, the town is traversed by the Shanghai-Hangzhou Railway. It administers 16 village committees: Chushi, Dongchen, Yancang, Luer, Tianming, Hongjin, Xinmin, Vegetables Village, Laozhuang, Dongguan, Wandu, Weiguo, Xiaowang, Jinqiao, Mugang, and Fishermen. The local industries mainly produce white raw silk, machinery, electric fans, copper and iron padlocks, leather clothing, and metal rolling products.
