The Tan Family Residence
The Tan Family Residence is a Haining Municipal Cultural Heritage Site.
The Tan Family Residence is located at No. 2 Ganheli, Xieshi Subdistrict. It dates back to the Republican era and is classified as a modern-era building.
On August 11, 2010, the Tan Family Residence was designated as a Haining Municipal Cultural Heritage Site.
Xieshi Subdistrict: Located on the Hangjiahu Plain, the subdistrict got its name from two nearby hills — East Hill and West Hill. As early as the Tang Dynasty, the area was renamed from Xiashi to Xieshi. In the sixth year of the Yonghui era during the Song Dynasty (655), Xieshi Town was established; in the eleventh year of the Kaiyuan era (723), Xieshi Market was set up; during the Huichang era (841–844), Xieshi Town was re-established; and in the fourth year of the Jianyan era of the Southern Song Dynasty (1130), Xieshi Fort was built. The area has long been known for its strong academic tradition, honest folkways, and a wealth of notable figures. It is home to cultural landmarks such as the former residences of Xu Zhimo and Zhang Zongxiang, as well as the Qian Juntao Art Research Museum. Xieshi lanterns are famous far and wide.
