Jiaxing Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery
The Jiaxing Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery is a cultural tourism attraction and a classic red tourism destination.
The Heroes' Park, also known as the Jiaxing Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery, was originally built in 1969 at its former site on Santalu Road in the urban area. It was established after the founding of New China to commemorate the revolutionary martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the liberation of Jiaxing. In May 1996, it was relocated to the South Lake Scenic Area, covering an area of 30.1 mu. A comprehensive renovation was carried out at the end of 2005, and it was officially completed and opened to the public in March 2006.
The Heroes' Park is divided into several areas including the Heroes' Monument, Heroes' Square, the Martyrs' Garden (martyrs' cemetery area), and the Jiaxing Revolutionary History Exhibition Hall. The Heroes' Monument stands 7 meters tall and 12.5 meters wide, assembled from 66 granite blocks weighing a total of 400 tons. The four sides of its base feature reliefs depicting major events from Jiaxing’s revolutionary and construction periods, illustrating the spirit of sacrifice of heroes from different eras. The Jiaxing Revolutionary History Exhibition Hall, located on the western side of the park, presents the heroic deeds of revolutionary martyrs across various historical stages and the local revolutionary history of Jiaxing through a people-through-history and history-through-people approach.
The cemetery is fully functional and well-equipped, featuring the Heroes' Monument, Heroes' Square, the People's Heroes Revolutionary Memorial Garden (martyrs' cemetery area), and the Jiaxing Revolutionary History Exhibition Hall. Various recreational facilities have also been added to the surrounding environment, allowing visitors to both pay tribute to the martyrs and enjoy leisure and sightseeing within the park.
