Haogu Pagoda was one of the "Seven Pagodas and Eight Temples" of ancient Jiaxing. It got its name because it stands near the city moat, whose waters curve like a leg.

Haogu Pagoda is located in Nanhu Fishing Village on the western side of South Lake. Standing 63.36 meters tall with seven stories and covering a construction area of 600 square meters, it features a Song Dynasty-style structure with surrounding corridors. At the upturned eaves on each of the four corners of every floor sits an exquisitely crafted Buddha statue, beneath which hangs a simple yet elegant wind bell, creating a poetic scene of “shadows trembling as if glass were shattered, and wind bells swaying high beyond the willows.” The pagoda spire is cast in pure gilded copper—an extremely rare sight in China—and is made using three kilograms of pure gold. Haogu Pagoda is the only climbable pagoda in Jiaxing. A wooden spiral staircase with 179 steps takes visitors to the top, offering panoramic views of South Lake and the entire city of Jiaxing.
