The Shixi North Lane Shikumen Residences are a protected cultural heritage site of Jiaxing City.

The Shixi North Lane Teachers’ Dormitory, located at No. 1–12, Shixi North Lane, Dingjiaqiao Community, Jianshe Subdistrict, Nanhu District, Jiaxing, commonly known as “Shijiantou,” was built in the late Qing Dynasty. Originally serving as housing for foreign teachers and staff of Xiuzhou Middle School, it was used as a medical facility for wounded soldiers of the Kuomintang army during the Liberation War. After liberation, it was taken over by the government and converted into public rental housing. In 2006, the property rights were transferred to Xiuzhou Middle School, and it currently still houses a large number of residential tenants. The building faces south and is constructed of brick and wood. It covers a land area of 1,200 square meters, with a total width of 60 meters and a depth of 20 meters. It is a two-story, two-courtyard building with twelve bays in total, featuring two-story wing rooms on both the east and west sides. The architectural style blends Chinese and Western elements. Each bay entrance is a Shikumen door, with a gable-shaped lintel decorated with European-style foliage motifs. The roof features a flush gable design, and the firewalls are arched. The interior has been significantly altered by residents. The dormitory reflects the architectural style of a specific historical period and remains relatively well-preserved. It holds significant historical and scientific value for the study of Jiaxing’s modern history and architectural forms. It was designated as a municipal-level cultural heritage site of Jiaxing in 2000.
