Jiaxing Old Railway Station
Jiaxing Old Railway Station is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiaxing City.
Jiaxing Old Railway Station is located on Gongyuan Road, Hongqiao Community, Jiefang Subdistrict, Nanhu District, Jiaxing City. It was established in the 33rd year of the Guangxu reign during the Qing Dynasty (1907). Originally, the station building was a two-story structure covering an area of 446 square meters with a total of 18 rooms. The roof was renovated in the 4th year of the Republic of China (1915). The up platform is 198 meters long and 9 meters wide, the island platform is 195 meters long and 8 meters wide. There is one railway track underpass. In the early stages of the War of Resistance Against Japan, all the station buildings were destroyed by Japanese artillery fire and were later rebuilt by the Japanese army. After the liberation, the station underwent renovations, expansions, and transformations. Currently, most of the station buildings at Jiaxing Station are still from the Republican era, and a new passenger station will be built elsewhere. The preserved Republican-era facilities are laid out from east to west in parallel, including a watchtower, waiting room, office area, and stable. The buildings all face south and feature brick-and-wood structures with walls made of flat-laid blue bricks, tiled roofs with Western-style tiles, and some with modified façades. The waiting room is divided into eastern and western sections — the eastern part is a two-story building, while the western part is a single-story, twelve-bay bungalow. The office area is also divided into two parts: the eastern section is a three-story, four-bay building; the western section is a two-story, six-bay building. A reading room and other structures were later added to the north of the offices. The stable is located southwest of the office area as a single-story bungalow. According to railway staff, this building was originally used by the Japanese to house horses. Jiaxing Old Railway Station was the terminal of the now-destroyed Suzhou–Jiaxing Railway and played an important military transport role during the Battle of Shanghai. The remaining Japanese-style buildings are solid evidence of Japanese aggression in China, particularly their occupation of Jiaxing, where they suppressed Chinese resistance and controlled the railway transportation lines. These structures hold significant historical and scientific value. It was designated as a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit of Jiaxing in 2009.
