Fucheng Primary School Building

The Fucheng Primary School Building is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiaxing City.

The Fucheng Primary School Building is located within Fucheng Primary School at Shaonian North Road, Pingshan Community, Jianshe Subdistrict, Nanhu District, Jiaxing City. Built in the 26th year of the Republic of China (1937), it covers a total area of 2,236 square meters and consists of a teaching building and an administrative building. The teaching building faces south and is of brick-and-wood structure, measuring 47 meters in width and 43 meters in depth. It is a two-story, four-bay building. To the north, the building extends into a large auditorium and two classrooms, forming a “mountain” shaped layout. The roof is covered with Western-style tiles, the walls are built with blue bricks, and the doors and windows are arched, showcasing a blend of Chinese and Western architectural styles. Originally used as dormitories by Jiaxing College and Jiaxing No.1 High School, it was later repurposed as classrooms by Experimental Primary School and Fucheng Primary School. The administrative building also faces south, is of brick-and-wood structure, measures 29.48 meters in width and 7.3 meters in depth, and is a two-story, two-bay building. Its roof is covered with Western-style tiles, and the walls are built with blue bricks. This building was originally used as a dormitory and was later repurposed as an administrative office building by Experimental Primary School and Fucheng Primary School. Fucheng Primary School has had a significant influence in Jiaxing’s education sector. The building features distinct Western architectural elements and holds considerable historical and scientific value for the study of Jiaxing’s modern educational and architectural history. It was designated as a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit of Jiaxing in 2000.
