The former site of Xiuzhou Middle School is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiaxing City.

The former site of Xiuzhou Middle School is located at No. 75 Huancheng East Road, Dingjiaqiao Community, Jianshe Subdistrict, Nanhu District. Built in the 26th year of the Guangxu reign during the Qing Dynasty (1900), it was a modern Western-style secondary school. The surviving structures include the School History Building and the Administration Building, covering a total area of approximately 353 square meters. The School History Building is a two-story Western-style house with a brick-and-wood structure, facing south and situated to the north. It is a typical example of Western-style architecture, with a total width of 25.24 meters and a depth of 7.74 meters. The walls are built with plain blue bricks, and the roof is covered with Western-style tiles. From 1946 to 1949, it served as dormitories for foreign teachers, and after the liberation, it was lent to the “Local Youth Committee” for office use. It was renovated in 2000 and converted into a school history exhibition hall. The Administration Building is also a two-story Western-style house, facing south and situated to the north, with a brick-and-wood structure, and is a typical example of Western-style architecture. It has a total width of 14.27 meters and a depth of 11 meters. The walls are constructed with plain blue bricks, and the roof is covered with Western-style tiles. Originally used as the principal’s residence, it was converted into an administrative office building around 1956. Xiuzhou Middle School was among the first batch of Western-style educational institutions in Jiaxing. Its buildings were all designed and constructed by foreigners, holding significant importance in the modern educational history of Jiaxing, and possessing considerable historical and artistic value. It was designated as a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit of Jiaxing in 2000.
