The former residence of Tang Lan is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiaxing City.

The former residence of Tang Lan is located at No. 106, Xiushuidou Community, Xinja Street, Jiaxing City. Tang Lan (1900–1979), a native of Jiaxing, was a renowned modern Chinese scholar, paleographer, bronze ware expert, pre-Qin historian, and poet. He served as a professor at Tsinghua University and Peking University, as well as the deputy director of the Palace Museum. He authored many works, such as *Introduction to Ancient Scripts*, *Records of Inscriptions from the Yin Ruins*, *Interpretation of Oracle Bones in Tianyi Pavilion*, and *Chinese Philology*. He developed original insights into ancient Chinese history, made outstanding contributions to the textual research and dating of inscriptions on bronze ware, and was also proficient in calligraphy, seal carving, poetry, and prose. After his passing, he was posthumously recognized as a member of the Communist Party of China. This house was his childhood home where he studied as a youth. It is a two-story brick-and-wood building facing south, originally consisting of a courtyard, the two-story main building, wing rooms, a small single-story house, and a yard, covering an area of approximately 180 square meters. The east room of the main building and the wing rooms are currently occupied by Tang Lan’s sister-in-law and nephew. Three small single-story rooms still preserve items used by Mr. Tang Lan during his lifetime, such as wooden cabinets, desks, chairs, and tea tables. As the childhood dwelling of Mr. Tang Lan, the residence witnessed his growth and holds significant meaning for commemorating his illustrious life, boasting high historical value. It was designated as a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit of Jiaxing in 2000.

Xinja Street: Located at No. 1477 Dongsheng Middle Road in the northwest part of Nanhu District, Jiaxing City, Xinja Street lies in the urban-rural fringe. It borders the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal to the east, the ancient Beijing-Hangzhou Canal to the south, Zhujiao Port to the west, extending northward via Zhujiao Port to Lujiaqiao Port, then crossing Xinchengtang and reaching the eastern side of Zhenxing Road Intersection on the Second Ring North Road. To the north, it extends to the intersection of the Second Ring North Road and the ancient Beijing-Hangzhou Canal. The jurisdiction covers an area of 5.5 square kilometers, with over 29,000 households and a population of more than 78,000.
