Gao Family Ancestral Hall
Gao Family Ancestral Hall is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiaxing City.
Gao Family Ancestral Hall is located within the Nanhui International Club in Yanyu Community, Nanhu Subdistrict, Nanhu District, Jiaxing City. It was built during the Qing Dynasty by the Gao family, founders of the Gao Gongxing Sauce Workshop. The ancestral hall spans an area of 1,384 square meters, with a total width of 19 meters and a depth of 72.85 meters. Facing south and built with a brick-and-wood structure, it consists of three main halls along with corridors. The first hall is a five-bay single-story building with a post-and-lintel style and a five-rafter roof. The southern beams and brackets are carved with figures and floral patterns, and it originally served as a sedan-chair hall. The second hall is also a five-bay single-story building, using a combination of raised-beam and post-and-lintel styles with a five-rafter roof, featuring double steps at both the front and back, and carvings on the beams and brackets. The floor is paved with square bricks. Originally used as the front hall, it now houses fitness equipment. The third hall is divided into eastern and western sections. The western part is a five-bay single-story building with a combination of raised-beam and post-and-lintel styles, a five-rafter roof, single steps at both ends, and four steps in between, currently serving as the staff canteen for the Nanhui International Club. The other western section is a three-bay single-story building with a similar construction style, a five-rafter roof, and double steps at both the front and back. Gao Family Ancestral Hall is relatively large in scale and well preserved. Similar buildings of this type are now very rare in downtown Jiaxing, making it significant for the study of local ancestor worship customs. It was designated as a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit of Jiaxing in 2010.
