Minglun Hall is located at No. 72 Shaonian Road, Pingshan Community, Jianshe Subdistrict, Nanhu District, Jiaxing City. It was originally the main hall of the Confucius Temple, built during the Yuan Dynasty. It has undergone multiple renovations over the years, with the current structure being reconstructed in the third year of the Tongzhi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1864) under the direction of Jiaxing Prefect Xu Yaoguang. In the 28th year of the Guangxu reign (1902), local notables from Jiaxing such as Tao Baolian and Jin Rongjing initiated the establishment of a library affiliated with Yuanyang Academy and the Jiaxing Education Promotion Institute to provide public reading services. Two years later, the Jiajun Library was officially founded, with its location set here—now the newspaper and periodical reading room of the Jiaxing Library. Minglun Hall faces south and features a five-bay layout, covering an area of over 340 square meters, with a width of 24.4 meters and a depth of 14 meters. It has a flush-gable roof, with three steps at the front and four at the back. The central bay employs a post-and-lintel beam structure, with cruciform bracket sets atop the mushroom-shaped pillars. Except for the original wooden framework, the roof, doors, windows, and flooring have all been renovated. Inside the hall, there remains a stone stele measuring 1.37 meters in height and 0.73 meters in width. Minglun Hall is an important remnant of the Confucius Temple in Jiaxing and serves as evidence of the imperial examination system during the feudal era. Although its function has changed, it still plays a role in cultural and educational activities, holding significant historical and scientific value. It was designated as a municipal-level cultural heritage site in Jiaxing in 2000.
