Leng Xian Ting
Leng Xian Ting is a cultural heritage site protected at the municipal level in Jiaxing City.
Leng Xian Ting is located in the former area of Xiangjia Yang, slightly north of Xiuzhou Road in Dingjiaqiao Community, Jianshe Subdistrict, Nanhu District, Jiaxing City. It was first built in the eighth year of the Chongzhen reign during the Ming Dynasty (1635) and rebuilt in the 28th year of the Daoguang reign during the Qing Dynasty (1848). Leng Qian, courtesy name Qijing, was from Wuling. In the first year of the Hongwu reign of the Ming Dynasty (1368), he served as an Assistant Director of Music and later settled in Jiaxing. He studied under the knowledgeable Ha Yun Shatuo, became renowned for his erudition and expertise in medicine and secret prescriptions, earning great respect among the local people of Jiaxing. His residence came to be known as Leng Xian Ting, which was later renamed Leng Xielü Ancestral Hall, dedicated to the worship of Leng Qian. The original structures of Leng Xian Ting included the Immortal Hall, Jade Emperor Hall, Doumu Hall, Leng Xian Ting, and the ancient Qingquan Sword Pond Well. The Immortal Hall and pavilion no longer exist, and only the Doumu Hall remains. The hall faces south and has a square floor plan, covering an area of about 600 square meters, with three bays and five depths. It features a post-and-lintel construction style, golden melon-shaped columns, and lacks bracket sets. The hall has small square-grid windows and doors, and the floor is paved with square bricks. There is an ancient well in front of the hall. Currently, it is managed by the Jiaxing Buddhist Association and enshrines the Four Directions and Three Saints (Amitabha Buddha, Guanyin, and Mahasthamaprapta), with resident monks. Leng Xian Ting had a certain influence in Jiaxing’s history and holds significant historical value for the study of local and religious history. It was designated as a municipal-level cultural heritage site in Jiaxing in 1981.
