Three-Step Two-Bridge
Three-Step Two-Bridge is a Zhejiang Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit.
Three-Step Two-Bridge is located in the southeast corner of Limin Administrative Village (formerly Shifosi Natural Village), Fengqiao Town, Nanhu District, Jiaxing City. According to local chronicles, it was built during the Ming Dynasty and consists of two connected bridges: Juxiu Bridge and Changfeng Bridge. Juxiu Bridge runs from north to south, while Changfeng Bridge runs from east to west. Juxiu Bridge is a single-arch stone bridge, with a total length of 16.21 meters and a bridge deck width of 2.27 meters. Its arch is constructed using a method of vertically aligned, segmented, and parallel courses, featuring a clear span of 6 meters and a height of 3.61 meters. Stone railings line both sides of the bridge, with 11 and 10 stone steps on the north and south sides, respectively. The bridge's arch stones are inscribed with “Juxiu Bridge,” while its east and west sides feature couplets: “Tracing the veins leading away from Plum Blossom Isle, anchoring the dividing dikes of Zen Staff Sand” and “Rippling light reflects the twin eyes of the Dragon Well, river sources connect to a mirror-like mountain spring.” The slopes at both ends of the bridge flair outward like a horn; the northern slope connects to the eastern slope of Changfeng Bridge, while the southern slope links to the riverside path. Changfeng Bridge is also a single-arch stone bridge, with a total length of 14.8 meters and a bridge deck width of 2.53 meters. Its arch is built using the same vertical alignment, segmented, and parallel technique, with a clear span of 5.2 meters and a height of 4.15 meters. There are 8 and 11 stone steps on the east and west sides, respectively, but no stone railings on the bridge deck. The bridge’s arch stone is engraved with “Changfeng Bridge,” and its southern side features a couplet: “Riding a quadriga, don’t boast of those who inscribe pillars; constructing a bridge aids the feats of rivers.” The eastern and western slopes run parallel—the eastern slope links to the northern slope of Juxiu Bridge, while the western slope connects to the riverside path. Three-Step Two-Bridge is an important historical structure in Fengqiao Town. With its unique shape, solid construction, good preservation, exquisite craftsmanship, and high historical and artistic value, it was designated as a Zhejiang Provincial-Level Cultural Relics Protection Unit in 2017.
