The Family Tomb of Shen Junru is located in Group 8, Changqin Village, Yuxin Town, Nanhu District, Jiaxing City. It lies to the east of Lujing Port, with the Shanghai-Hangzhou High-Speed Railway about 200 meters to the south. Facing east and situated to the west, the tomb covers a total area of 2,500 square meters and serves as the burial site for Shen Junru and his wife, Shen Junru’s father Shen Zaoqing, and other family members. The tombstone of Shen Junru is inscribed with “Tomb of Mr. Shen Hengshan and Madam Zhang Mengchan” and “Erected in the second month of the Bingzi year of the Republic of China.” The current tombstone was replicated by the local government based on the original, which was moved to the Shen Junru Memorial Hall in June 1998. After Shen Junru passed away in 1963, his ashes were interred at Babaoshan Revolutionary Cemetery in Beijing, so this tomb only contains the remains of his wife, Zhang Mengchan. To the north of the Shen couple’s tomb lies the grave of Shen Junru’s father, Shen Zaoqing, with a tombstone inscribed “Tomb of Shen Zaoqing, Late Qing Dynasty Scholar-Official of Xiushui.” Shen Junru (1875–1963), courtesy name Bingfu, also known as Hengshan, was originally from Jiaxing. A successful candidate in the imperial examination during the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty, he was a Chinese jurist and political activist. He served as Chairman of the Central Committee of the China Democratic League, and held positions such as Government Council Member of the People’s Republic of China, Vice Chairman of the Central People’s Government, and President of the Supreme People’s Court. Shen Junru was a banner of the democratic left and a shining example of patriotic intellectuals, holding a significant place in the history of the Chinese revolution. His family tomb holds high historical value. It was designated as a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit of Jiaxing in 2009.
