Tomb of Yan Zhu

The Tomb of Yan Zhu is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiaxing City.

The Tomb of Yan Zhu is located within Fucheng Primary School in Ping Shan Community, Jianshe Subdistrict, Nanhu District, Jiaxing City. It is the burial site of Yan Zhu, a notable figure of the Western Han Dynasty. Yan Zhu (unknown–112 BCE), originally named Yan Zhuangzhu, was a native of Wu County, Kuaiji Commandery (in present-day Jiangsu and Zhejiang regions). A renowned fu (rhapsody) writer known for his literary talent, he eventually rose to the position of Prefect of Kuaiji. The tomb is circular, covering an area of 2,157 square meters with a perimeter of 174 meters. The mound is covered with lush vegetation, creating a tranquil environment. However, both the burial chamber and the tombstone have been lost. According to research by Jiaxing local Pang Yiyin in his article “Talking About Yan Zhu,” the authenticity of this tomb remains uncertain. Despite this, the tomb has a long history and provides physical evidence for the study of Yan Zhu and ancient local burial customs, making it of significant historical value. It was designated as a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit of Jiaxing in 1992.
