Meiyuan Site
The Meiyuan Site is a cultural heritage site protected at the municipal level in Jiaxing.
The Meiyuan Site is located in Meiyuan, Qicheng Village, Fengqiao Town, Nanhu District, Jiaxing City. It borders Xinhuang Community to the east and south, Gaotingsi of Qianjia Team to the west, and Yu Huang Highway to the north. The site is irregular in shape, covering an area of approximately 38,000 square meters. Currently, it is mainly used by villagers to grow crops such as mulberry trees, rapeseed, and preserved mustard greens. Some parts of the site have greenhouses built by villagers, as well as several villager-built tombs. Behind the earthen mound is an east-west concrete drainage ditch, while both the northern and southern sides have been converted into farmland. Pottery fragments have been found on the ground surface, with printed pottery patterns including rice-character motifs, grid patterns, and meander designs. Based on the collected pottery samples, it can be determined that this was a settlement site dating from the Liangzhu Culture of the Neolithic Age to the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods. The site has a relatively large distribution area, and the numerous Neolithic pottery fragments discovered during field surveys suggest it holds high historical and scientific value. It was designated as a municipal-level cultural heritage protection site in Jiaxing in 2009.
