The Caidun Site
The Caidun Site is a cultural heritage protection unit of Jiaxing City.
The Caidun Site is located in Group 9, Jinxing Village, Yuxin Town, Jiaxing City. The site covers an area of approximately 12,000 square meters, stretching about 160 meters from east to west and around 90 meters from north to south. The raised mound is roughly “rectangular” in shape and stands about 2 meters above the ground. According to records from the Second National Cultural Relics Survey, many pottery shards were unearthed here, including pieces of pottery with fish-fin-shaped tripod legs, deep-bellied basins, as well as stone tools such as stone axes, stone bowls, soil-breaking implements, and stone arrowheads. Analysis of these artifacts indicates that the site was a settlement dating from the Liangzhu Culture of the Neolithic Age to the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods. Today, many pottery fragments are still exposed on the raised mound. This site is large in scale, has a long period of occupation, and is one of the better-preserved ancient cultural sites in Jiaxing City, holding significant historical and scientific value. It was designated as a municipal-level cultural relics protection unit of Jiaxing City in 1981.
