Quemu Bridge Site
The Quemu Bridge Site is a Zhejiang Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit.
The Quemu Bridge Site is located in Zhaobang Natural Village, Quemuqiao Village, Dongzha Subdistrict, Nanhu District, Jiaxing City, covering an area of approximately 45,000 square meters, measuring 300 meters from north to south and 150 meters from east to west. During the construction of a bridge in 1972, a set of Liangzhu culture pottery artifacts was discovered at the site. In 1982, during the second national cultural relics survey, a regional cultural relics survey team identified a landslide. With approval from the provincial cultural relics bureau, two exploration trenches were excavated in early 1983, covering a trial excavation area of 26.2 square meters. Both trenches were located on the northern side of a highland about 7 meters south of the highway, where two tombs and three cultural layers were discovered. The unearthed pottery fragments were relatively large in size and loosely made, including items such as tripods, deep-bellied bowls, jar-shaped vessels, and filtering vessels, all identified as artifacts from the Songze culture. In 1983, through two rescue excavations, cultural layers corresponding to three different historical periods—the Songze culture, Liangzhu culture, and ancient Wu-Yue culture—were identified. The site yielded 14 ancient wells, 8 Neolithic tombs, 2 ash pits, 1 ash ditch, and over 400 catalogued small artifacts. A large number of artifacts were unearthed, showcasing a rich variety of types and a broad chronological span, giving the site high historical and scientific value. It was designated as a Zhejiang Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit in 2017.
