Tangjiang Rock

Tangjiang Rock is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

Tangjiang Rock is one of the main attractions of the Huancheng-Wuxie National Key Scenic Area, located southwest of Zhuji City, less than 10 kilometers from the Douyan Scenic Area. The area has long been inhabited by families surnamed Tang, and the section of the Puyang River that flows through here is called Tangjiang. The towering cliffs rising from the riverside forests are thus named Tangjiang Rock.

The Tangjiang Rock Scenic Area covers an area of 14 square kilometers, surrounded by green mountains on three sides and a lake on one. It consists of major attractions such as Tangjiang Rock, Hudong Mountain, Lingping Temple, Five-Finger Mountain, and Anhua Lake. The central area of Tangjiang Rock was historically referred to as the Thirty-Six Scenic Spots. Old records once noted: “The rock rises a hundred zhang high, rugged and precipitous, with no mountain without cliffs, no cliff without rocks, no rock without caves, and no cave without openings — all thirty-six scenic spots in total.”

Tangjiang Rock is the dominant feature of the entire scenic area. The rock stands over 330 meters tall, rising abruptly from the banks of the Tangjiang River, solitary and majestic, with sheer cliffs and a grand, imposing presence. The vertical fissures and cracks on the rock face divide the massive cliff into countless uniquely shaped rock clusters, presenting a myriad of forms that stir the imagination. The western side of the cliff slopes inward from top to bottom, forming a natural cave-like structure. Looking up, it is enough to make one dizzy. Beneath the overhanging cliff stands a temple, formerly known as the Hu Gong Temple, which is said to commemorate Hu Deji, a military commander of Xinzhou during the late Yuan Dynasty. The rear of the temple uses the cliff as its wall, with no beams, rafters, or tiles, yet rain cannot penetrate the structure. The interior remains cool in summer and warm in winter, exuding an exceptional serenity.

Adult ticket: 30 RMB; children under 1.2 meters, seniors over 70, and military personnel can enter free of charge; children between 1.2 and 1.5 meters enjoy a half-price ticket of 15 RMB.
